Fatboy Slim's (the alter ego of musician Norman Cook) raucous blend of house, acid, funk, hip-hop, electro, and techno has cemented his formidable reputation as one of the foremost all-around producers on the dance club scene.
Originally Cook found fame with 80's pop group the Housemartins, after the group split the following year, Cook became involved with the burgeoning acid-house scene, forming Pizzaman toward the end of the decade, who had three UK Top 40 hits together ('Trippin' on Sunshine,' 'Sex on the Streets,' and 'Happiness') before Cook splintered off to record with similarly-styled outfits Freakpower and Beats International in the early '90s.
Norman Cook's Fatboy Slim incarnation grew out of the "Sunday Social" night at a popular London club. Debut album 'Better Living Through Chemistry' brought immediate global success and contained the hit single, "Everybody Needs a 303". Fatboy Slim's eagerly anticipated second album, 'You've Come a Long Way, Baby', followed and went triple platinum in Australia peaking at # 2 in the album charts. It spawned 4 massive single "The Rockafeller Skank", "Praise You", 'Right Here Right Now" and "Gangster Trippin".
'Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars' was the next full Fatboy Slim album released in 2000 and featured the singles "Sunset (Bird Of Prey)", "Demons (Feat. Macy Gray)" and "Star 69/Weapon Of Choice" it went Gold in Australia and peaked at # 6. Then came his Greatest Hits "Why Try Harder" which charted at # 4 and went Gold.
As The Chairman of The BPA, Norman Cook also has a new album out entitled "I Think We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat" (Jan 31st, 2009) it features a number of collaborations with the likes of Iggy Pop, Martha Wainwright, David Byrne, Dizzee Rascal, Jamie T, Ashley Beedle and more.
