Sherbet
Biography
Australia can't get enough of legendary pop super group Sherbet. Since the band's brilliant reunion performances on the 2006 Countdown Spectacular tour, the demand for re-issued, re-mastered material has reached new heights.
Liberation Music has answered the call with the two-disc SHERBET ANTHOLOGY, available in stores on October 25.

The SHERBET ANTHOLOGY is the most comprehensive collection of Sherbet songs ever made available in one package. The double CD Anthology of 40 songs includes Sherbet's best-loved chart hits from the 1970s plus treasured album tracks from their substantial catalogue.

What's most exciting is that this new compilation also includes six newly remastered Sherbs tracks, from the band's less commercial but more musically adventurous and critically acclaimed period in the early 1980s.

In their heyday, Sherbet's knack was for soaking up a wide range of styles that influenced them early in their career, and then creating highly original pop songs that became intrinsic to the soundtrack of 1970s Australia. From their first hit in 1971, the cover of Blue Mink's "Can You Feel It Baby", through their landmark signature tunes such as "You've Got The Gun", "Cassandra", "Slipstream", "Summer Love", "Child's Play", "Howzat", "Rock Me Gently" and many more, Sherbet's imprint on Australian pop music culture was momentous.

Sherbet was not just a singles band. Their albums, from the auspicious debut, Time Change – A Natural Progression, to the ahead-of-its-time concept album, Life... Is for Living, the massively successful Howzat! and Photoplay, and through to the more mature-sounding Sherbet, all contained finely-crafted, memorable songs that became live concert favourites. Songs such as the early crowd-pleasing party song "Do It", the magnificent ballad "If I Had My Way" and the autobiographical drama of "Winnipeg Sidestep", all became much loved by Sherbet fans through the years.

With a selection of The Sherbs songs finally available in remastered versions, the more cutting-edge period of the band's life can be placed in a fitting historical context. "Never Surrender" and "I Have The Skill" are examples of the impassioned on-fire Sherbs that audiences experienced for a few years, and to now hear The Sherbs side by side with Sherbet gives their songs added resonance.

The classic Sherbet line-up that topped the charts and won the hearts of thousands of Australians – and fans in the UK, Europe and the US – featured Daryl Braithwaite (lead vocal), Garth Porter (keyboards), Clive Shakespeare (guitar 1969-1976), Harvey James (guitar 1976-1982), Tony Mitchell (bass) and Alan Sandow (drums). Tony Leigh (guitar 1982-84) joined during The Sherbs era and was also in the band during the reunion/farewell tour of 1984 that resulted in the final single, "Tonight Will Last Forever".

But it wasn't the final Sherbet single after all. Coming together after a 22-year recording hiatus, Sherbet recorded two gloriously catchy songs to coincide with their performances at the Countdown Spectacular in 2006. "Hearts Are Insane" and "Red Dress" are featured in the Anthology to perfectly round out this superb collection.

The SHERBET ANTHOLOGY is the must-have CD compilation for Sherbet fans and anyone who loves classic Australian popular music.
