News Dz_general_hi

If there were one word that DZ Deathrays would use to sum up the last 12 months of their lives it would have to be “brutal”. After signing to Melbourne based record label I OH YOU early last year and releasing their 2nd EP “Brutal Tapes” as well as their debut EP in Europe, Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley have quickly impressed music lovers and critics across the world.

Since the first house party they ever played, the duo have been noted as a relentless live act, 2011 proved to be no different with the two friends hitting the highways of Australia with many acts including Foo Fighters, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, F**ked Up and Dananananaykroyd. They also made several trips overseas including performances at SXSW and The Great Escape, shows with Band of Skulls, Male Bonding, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and finally full tours of the UK with NYC punk band Cerebral Ballzy and the NME Radar tour.

DZ Deathrays quickly fell into the good graces of highly respected publications NME Magazine and Q Magazine who both placed DZ Deathrays in their “top 10 bands of The Great Escape”, while NME took their praise even further and placed them as the 4th most exciting new act of 2012 including a double page spread on the band featuring quotes from Mark Ronson, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Huw Stephens of the BBC1!

Upon returning to Australia in early November 2011, Shane and Simon finally ventured into the studio to record their highly anticipated debut LP with Richard Pike (of PVT) and Neil Coombe at the White Room Studios in Mt Nebo. What they surfaced with is a killer album that we’re thrilled to be able to present to you later this year.

On that note we’re now happy to announce that DZ Deathrays will be dropping the first taste of the debut full length this week! This entrée will be provided in the form of a 2:49min track titled ‘No Sleep’ and will be world premiered through the UK’s BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday night (UK time) and be available on iTunes in Australia and the UK from the 27th of January.

The news doesn’t stop there though, we’re pleased to announce that DZ Deathrays have recently confirmed plans release their debut EP in the US and Canada in February and March respectively before returning to both countries for a string of shows including performances at SXSW and Canadian Music Week. The duo’s EP will be released in the US via 3|4 Records (OFWGKTA) and in Canada through Dine Alone Records (Alexisonfire, City & Colour).

Finally, having kicked off the 2012 touring year by being handpicked by Crystal Castles for their Australia sideshows, DZ Deathrays will be touring nationally on the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival that kicks off this week before departing for more overseas adventures through Europe and North America!
