Shane wins a Golden Guitar plus collaborates with Paul Kelly
Shane NIhcolson won the highly coveted APRA SONG OF THE YEAR for the title track from his critically acclaimed album BAD MACHINES at the Jayco C.M.A.A Country Music Awards announced on Saturday night at Tamworth.
With a total of six nominations the album obviously found favour with the country music voting panel, and his nomination for VOCAL COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR, which features iconic Australian Paul Kelly on guest vocals, is very timely given it's release this week.
"Whistling Cannonballs was one of those rare songs that almost seem to write themselves" says Shane. "It just fell out of me. I had Paul Kelly's voice in my head as I was writing, imagining him singing it, relaying the story. So to have him record it with me was a dream come true."
The accompanying video clip was shot by Duncan Toombs at the beautiful Eauropean styled Artsits Colony in Monstsalvat in Melbourne's North East. Shane & Paul found themselves very at home on the chaise lounge in the 'Great Hall'surrounded by sculptures, artworks buy the current residents and founding artists.
Also worth noting that Shane produced Beccy Cole's award winning album 'Songs & Pictures' and he was also nominated as 'Producer of the Year' for that recording.
Shane sold out his only show at the 'Tamworth Inn'and will soon head out to perform at several festivals.
