Breaking "coathanger antennae", his first new album in almost four years, the single is an undeniable highlight but ironically it was one song that was almost edged out of a spot on the album. diesel picks up the story: "Lyrically it‟s one of the most „to-the bone‟ songs. I was raised as a Catholic and I‟m glad that I was brought up with some sense of spirituality, but as I‟ve gotten older I‟ve realized that religion and spirituality is almost always open to personal interpretation.
Personally I don‟t think anyone is going to save me. I wrote and demoed the song early on in the "coathanger antennae" sessions with my band Richie Vez and Lee Moloney but for whatever reason didn‟t have it in the final list. Warren Costello at Liberation heard it and felt very strongly that it should be included so we mixed it and it‟s come up a treat" The video was shot in Sydney and in Bangkok by Director Tim Spicer. The new single comes packaged in a deluxe limited edition sleeve and includes two non-album tracks: „See You Around‟ and „I‟m Coming Too‟ and the retail date is August 12, at which time diesel will be playing two exclusive single launch shows... 11 August at the Spanish Club in Sydney and 12 August in Melbourne at the Gershwin Room, Espy Hotel.
"Coathanger Antennae" has received glowing press reviews, with Neala Johnson (Melbourne Herald-Sun) declaring "diesel always had soul, (and) on Coathanger Antennae he finds new ways of showing it" and Scott Podmore (Sunday Herald-Sun) echoing that same sentiment in his 4 star review, saying "(Diesel is) renowned for fusing rock and soul and Coathanger Antennae is a rousing, fresh and entertaining reminder that he is still around and firing on all cylinders".
