Shane Nicholson
Bad Machines
A native of Brisbane, Australia, singer/songwriter Shane Nicholson first gained public attention as the lead-singer/guitarist for the rock band
Pretty Violet Stain in the late 1990's. Interested in music from a young age, Nicholson formed the band while in high school. After winning the JJJ Unearthed competition, they released their debut album Parachutes and Gravity in 2000.
Ultimately, Shane parted ways with the band and released his debut solo album It's A Movie in 2003, followed by Faith & Science in 2006 - both albums receiving wide critical acclaim.
Shane had met Kasey Chambers when she sang some featured backing vocals on the lead single from It's a Movie, and in time the two would marry and go on to record the highly acclaimed, #1 album Rattlin' Bones in 2008, winning Best Country Album at the 2008 ARIA Awards, and scoring 5 Golden Guitar Awards in 2009, with the album ultimately achieving platinum+ sales.
When touring commitments for Rattlin' Bones wound up Shane found himself back in his home studio on the Central Coast of NSW. Familiar Ghosts was released in late 2008 and further established Shane as one of Australia's most prolific and respected singer / songwriters with the album being nominated in the Best Country Album category in the 2009 ARIA Awards.
In the past, music critics have been unanimous in their praise, many drawing on names such as Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle in an attempt to describe the depth of Shane's songs and the extent of his honest and emotional vocal delivery. However in recent times there is no doubt at all that Shane has created a unique musical place for himself.
Produced by Shane and Nash Chambers, 'Bad Machines' features guest cameo's Paul Kelly and Kasey Chambers and will confirm that
Shane Nicholson is one of our pre-eminent singer / songwriters.
